Borders, I also have found - if you can press those seams out towards the outer edge of the quilt, the borders themselves will lay flat. The only reason I break that rule, is if there is a lighter colored border, and it needs to be pressed to the dark.
*Irons - I would not suggest getting a Rowenta iron if you are in the market for a new iron. The first iron my mom had when I started quilting was a Rowenta - that thing must have lasted like 2 decades. Now, I have gone through about 3 Rowenta irons I feel like in about a year.
